Çatalhöyük

Çatalhöyük |ʧɑtɑl højyk| (also written Çatal Höyük, Çatal Hüyük, or any variation of the three writings here without diacritics) is an important prehistoric archaeological site situated on the Konya Plain in central Anatolia. The site is located close to the modern city of Konya and approximately 85 km from the twin-coned volcano Hasan Dağ.

Excavation
Çatalhöyük was first excavated under the direction of the British archaeologist James Mellaart from 1961 to 1964.
The most recent series of excavations was initiated in 1993, after a long hiatus.
