Akhmim

Akhmim (Arabic: اخميم, Egyptian: Apu, Khen-min, Greek: Panopolis, Chemnis, Coptic: Shmin) is a town and archaeological site in Upper Egypt, situated on the east bank of the Nile River, 67 miles south of Asyut, and 4 miles north of Sohag.

Akhmim was the city of the ithyphallic god Min, later identified with Pan by the Greeks.

The main cemetery of ancient Akhmim was located north-east of the city at el-Hawawish.
