Coffin Texts
From ArchaeoWiki
The Coffin Texts (siglum = CT) is the conventional modern term for funerary texts of the Middle Kingdom period, recorded on the interior walls of contemporaneous coffins and burial chambers.
The Coffin Text corpus derives in part from the Pyramid Texts, and features many passages included in the later corpus of funerary literature known as the Book of the Dead.
Bridging the gap between the Old Kingdom Pyramid Texts and the New Kingdom Book of the Dead, the texts were intended to supply the deceased with the spells they would need to achieve security in the Afterlife. As such, the Coffin Texts supply valuable insights into Egyptian beliefs and mortuary practices.
