Djedefre was the son of Khufu and the third ruler of the Fourth Dynasty in the Old Kingdom period of ancient Egypt.

The reign of Djedefre was apparently short. Nonetheless, Djedefre appears to have been the first of Egypt's rulers to employ the epithet "son of the sun god (Re)" and to have incorporated the name of the solar deity into his own name.
