From ArchaeoWiki
Elephantine is an island in the vicinity of the city of Aswan in Upper Egypt. The island formed the centre of settlement in the area from the Predynastic period onwards.
Elephantine is known for a corpus of papyri originating from members of a Jewish garrison who inhabited the island between 495 to 399 BCE.
