Hyksos is the common term for a Canaanite élite that ruled Lower Egypt in the Second Intermediate Period.

The term derives from Manetho, who in turn adapted the Hellenised term from the Egyptian ḥq3 ḫ3s.wt - "ruler(s) of foreign lands".
