Mentuhotep II

Mentuhotep II Nebhepetre was a Theban ruler of the Eleventh Dynasty of ancient Egypt, recognised as the founder of the Middle Kingdom for reunifying the country and bringing the First Intermediate Period to a close.

Mentuhotep II was regarded by subsequent generations of Egyptians as one of their greatest rulers. Mentuhotep II's mortuary temple clearly remained in use during the Nineteenth Dynasty—over seven centuries after the king's death—when some of the reliefs were restored.
