Middle Egypt
From ArchaeoWiki
Middle Egypt is a contemporary term that is employed by many scholars to refer conventionally to a region of both ancient Egypt and the modern state of Egypt situated between the the southern reaches of the Memphis region to the north and the region surrounding Asyut to the south (Upper Egyptian nomes 12/13—22). Many scholars would conventionally extend the Middle Egypt further south to the area surrounding Akhmim (and modern Sohag (Upper Egyptian nome 9).
Perhaps somewhat confusingly, "Middle Egypt" can therefore be equated with the northern portion of the Upper Egypt of traditional geographical nomenclature. Middle Egypt is normally considered to include the Faiyum region.
The term ‘Middle Egypt’ is frequently employed on account of the region's well-defined geographical boundaries and a strong historical and cultural identity.
