Palmyra
From ArchaeoWiki
Palmyra (Arabic: تدمر Tadmor) was an important ancient settlement of central Syria, situated in an oasis some 215 km north-east of Damascus and some 120 km south-west of the Euphrates River. As such, Palmyra represented a vital way-station on the main caravan route across the northern Arabian Desert and became known as the "Bride of the Desert".
