Second Intermediate Period

The Second Intermediate Period was a period of disunity and foreign domination in Egypt between the Middle and New Kingdoms.

Lower Egypt during the Second Intermediate Period was dominated by a Canaanite ruling élite popularly known by the Manethonian term Hyksos, whose kings formed the Fifteenth Dynasty based at Avaris.
