Stela
From ArchaeoWiki
A Stela |ˌstiːlə| (noun, plural -lae |-liː|) is an upright slab, inscribed panel or column, typically of stone, and bearing a commemorative inscription or relief design, often serving as a gravestone or for the publication of monumental inscriptions.
The origin of the term in several modern European languages is to be found in the late 18th century, adopted via Latin from ancient Greek stele |stiːl| |ˌstiːli| (noun) another term for stela, from Greek στηλη stēlē "standing block".
