Xerxes I (the Great) (Old Persian: Xšayârša, "Ruler of heroes"; Persian: خشایارشا, Khshayarshā; Greek: Ξέρξης, "Xérxēs"), son of Darius I and Atossa, was king of Achaemenid Persia and its empire from 485–465 BCE.
